Between the Dolomites and Kronplatz

A unique and varied world

Inimitable natural scenery, a palette where stands out the blue colour of lakes and streams, embraced by the green of pastures and by the pale shades of rocks that turn ablaze at sunset… These are the Dolomites, a UNESCO world heritage site. Located at the gates of the Fanes plateau, the village of San Vigilio di Marebbe is a wonderful outpost for the exploration of the so-called Pale Mountains. Just a 5-minute walk away from Sorà Apartments and Dolomite Mountain Apartments in San Vigilio, there is the Visitor Centre of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, where you can find lots of interesting information about the territory and get an answer to any question regarding the park. And with the project Dolomiti Ranger this charming rocky world also opens up to families with children.

But the key-peak of this area doesn’t belong to a dolomite ridge. Kronplatz, also called “Panettone” (due to its form that resembles the famous Italian Christmas cake), is completely different, but not less attractive. The view from its 2275 m a.s.l. sweeps from the peaks of the Dolomites to the Alpine Ridge on the border with Austria. Right on top you can find the characteristic Messner Mountain Museum Corones, dedicated to traditional alpinism.

Activities for thrill-seekers

A holiday is boring when there are no strong emotions and thrilling adventures. If that’s exactly what you think, than the Kronplatz Holiday Region is the right place for you. Here you can challenge the force of gravity, in winter, in snow parks and, in summer, in adventure parks and on high rope courses. Here you can test your courage during rafting, canyoning or ice-climbing tours. Here you can whiz into the air launched by the giant Skyscraper swing on top of Mount Kronplatz. Or try the thrill of paragliding among the peaks of the Dolomites (available also in tandem version).

But the most extraordinary attraction is the biggest zip-line in Europe that is composed of 10 ropes for overall 3200 m. Adrenaline, emotions and the thrill of 80 km/h! Experience that lasts just a few minutes but certainly leaves its mark. The final destination is located right in the village of San Vigilio di Marebbe, just a short walk away from Sorà Apartments and Dolomite Mountain Apartments.

From San Vigilio di Marebbe by road bike, MTB or e-bike

Road bikes and mountain bikes are so popular in San Vigilio di Marebbe and in the whole Kronplatz Holiday Region that in summer they turn into the most frequently used means of transport (after one’s own legs of course). With a racing bike, you can challenge the itinerary of the famous Giro d’Italiasprint stage that starts in San Vigilio di Marebbe and reaches the finish line on top of Mount Kronplatz. If not, just enjoy a relaxing ride along the cycle route that leads from San Vigilio to San Lorenzo (Brunico/Bruneck) and joins there the long and enjoyable Puster Valley cycle track. For the well-trained ones, the legendary passes of the Dolomites are just a few kilometres away.

At the same time, the Kronplatz Region features countless mountain bike trails. Don’t forget that the guests of Sorà Apartments and Dolomite Mountain Apartmentsin San Vigilio di Marebbe have the possibility to hire mountain bikes free of charge. Among the best MTB itineraries there are the trails to Pederü and Pliscia, as well as the splendid circle tours around Kronplatz or over the Fanes plateau, that, with the help of e-bikes, are accessible even for intermediate level riders. To thrill-seekers Kronplatz offers four breath-taking downhill and freeride trails. One of them, Piz da Plaies, leads down from the top station of Piz da Plaies cable car right to the village of San Vigilio di Marebbe.

Mountains as nothing more but a huge playground

For every child a holiday at Kronplatz, especially in San Vigilio di Marebbe, is a truly exciting experience. Both in summer and in winter, there is no lack of fun and entertainment. Adventures begin already on the vast lawn in front of Sorà Apartments in San Vigilio di Marebbe, where in winter children can play in the snow and in summer the whole family can have a great time enjoying barbecue, sun loungers and the nearby playground. The surroundings are also full of attractions. The favourite family destination in summer is certainly the beach of Ciamaor, featuring lots of games and a picnic area, that can be reached on foot from your apartment in just 20 minutes. On the nearby equestrian arena you can learn to ride a horse and try horse-trekking, even by moonlight.

Lots of fun is also waiting for kids on top of Mount Kronplatz, where they will find the Teepee Village Kikeriki with the adjacent Climbing Park and the exciting Via Ferratafor children. Another family highlight is the nearby Kids’ World in Valdaora/Olang. For a refreshing swim, head towards the Wellness Centre Cron4 in Riscone/Reischach or towards the pools of the Cascade Complex in Campo Tures / Sand in Taufers. In winter, among the activities that inspire imagination there are also toboggan runs on Cianross slope, charming horse-drawn sleigh rides and visits to fabulous Christmas Markets, like the one in Brunico/Bruneck or the new Advent Market in San Vigilio di Marebbe.
